What is SEO?

SEO stands for search engine optimization. It has become an umbrella term that refers to the process of improving websites and their position in the marketplace so as to garner worldwide attention. SEO can be broken down into two distinct areas.

Those are content and promotion. Content refers to not only the written word but the structure and code hidden behind the scenes. Search engine optimization requires that content be developed in such a manner as to make a website desirable to both automated readers (search engines) and the public at large.

The second half of SEO is promotion. Promotion of websites on the internet takes form in hundreds of different ways. Some of these are advertising on similarly themed websites, link building so as to create a basis of authority for the site in reference to all of the internet and various types of posting that put the content and ideas within your website into a pattern of mainstream exposure.

All of these segments of website promotion can be further broken down into specific techniques and processes. But, still it is the overall understanding and implementation of targeted content and promotion that become what we refer to as SEO.
